Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Apple Marketing Program (PAMP) has planned a more prominent presence at the 2014 Pennsylvania Farm Show (January 4 – 11, 2014) including sponsorships, new booth installations, sampling, and a contest for visitors.
The Pennsylvania Apples booth, which represents–in some capacity–the following industry organizations: PAMP, Young Growers Alliance, Adams County Fruit Growers, State Horticultural Association of Pennsylvania and fruit industry representatives from Penn State Extension (Adams County), has an excellent daily line up to engage Farm Show visitors of all ages.
Each day (through Friday, January 10th) visitors to the Pennsylvania Apples booth will have an array of options to learn about and experience Pennsylvania apples. Daily activities include:
- Sampling of a variety of fresh apples
- Sampling of processed apple products (butters, juices, cider, etc.) from local farm markets
- Opportunities to speak one-on-one with a local grower at the Meet the Grower area
- Award-winning apples on display for viewing
- Young Growers Alliance fresh apple and cider sale to benefit fruit industry research through Penn State extension
- A chance to win a brand new refrigerator at the Chill Zone—an educational area focused on properly storing apples for freshness
- Viewing of technical orchard equipment on display
In addition to the daily activities at the Pennsylvania Apples booth, PAMP is also a proud sponsor of the PA Preferred VIP Reception and Apple Day at the Farm Show’s popular Culinary Connection. Six notable, local chefs will prepare apple-inspired recipes throughout the day on Thursday, January 9, 2014. The chef line up and schedule is as follows:
12 PM – Mario Stanzione, Executive Pastry Check, Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Track
1 PM – Matthew Stallings, Executive Chef, Home 231
2 PM – Rob Dacko, Executive Chef, Federal Taphouse

“More than 500,000 people visit the PA Farm Show each year. Farm Show visitors are avid supporters of agriculture and local producers. We see this as a tremendous opportunity to educate the public about Pennsylvania’s fourth largest commodity—apples,” said Julie Bancroft, PAMP Executive Director. Adding, “The Pennsylvania Apples booth offers so many different ways to experience local apples, including delicious samples of fresh apples and processed apple products.”
