CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – A number of Island potato growers and agricultural businesses alike are showing their love for Prince Edward Island Potatoes by displaying a number of round bales wrapped with signs promoting PEI Potatoes around the province this summer.
This initiative by the PEI Potato Board started last year and has grown in scale this summer. Near several of the major highways across Prince Edward Island, motorists can watch for round bales emblazoned with such phrases as “Rows and Rows of World Famous PEI Potatoes” or “Grown Here, Loved Around the World,” along with the popular “I Heart PEI Potatoes.”
These wrapped bales are placed strategically in scenic potato fields or on private property belonging to businesses that the PEI potato industry supports.
Trent Cousins and Danie van Schalkwyk of Allan Equipment Manufacturing Ltd. in West Covehead jumped at the chance to get an I Heart PEI Potatoes bale for their business. “We rely on the potato industry for the success of our business, so we are proud to do what we can to support the industry,” notes Trent. “Potato growers should be proud of the economic activity they bring to the Island while producing nutritious food for us to eat.”
Prince Edward Island Potatoes are world renowned for the great taste and quality that comes from growing in the unique red soil of PEI. The Prince Edward Island Potato Board is a roducer-controlled association dedicated to supporting the highest performance of an economically and environmentally sustainable potato industry. The potato industry is worth over $1 billion to the Prince Edward Island economy each year.
