PAIA’s 2012/2013 Category Management Plan Outline For Fresh Peruvian Asparagus

The Peruvian Asparagus Importer’s Association (PAIA) has developed their 2012/2013 Category Management Plan Outline for Fresh Peruvian Asparagus.

According to the outline, referenced information from the 2011 Department of Commerce, U.S. Census Bureau and Foreign Trade Statistics reveals the United States imported more than 384 million pounds of fresh-market asparagus for 2011.  Of that total Peru represented over 189 million pounds equaling 49% of the total supply to the U.S. in 2011.  Peru continues to be a strong leader in supply of quality asparagus to the U.S. market enabling U.S. retailers to stock fresh-market asparagus on their shelves year round.

The 2012/2013 Category Management Plan Outline for Fresh Peruvian Asparagus specifically includes statistics relating to market summaries, trends, nutritional facts, consumer positioning, quality commitments and food safety certifications.  The Outline provides fresh-market asparagus consumption key demographics, category and merchandising goals, suggestions on display, and promotional/advertising ideas that offer retailers fresh strategies to increase sales of Peruvian asparagus.

New presentations bring new opportunities and the Peruvian fresh-market asparagus industry continues to evolve with value added presentations to bring more options to the U.S. retailer and food service industry!  As an industry, Peruvian exporters and importers are partnering efforts in developing value added programs that provide U.S. consumers with options that promote convenience and easy to prepare alternatives for fresh Peruvian asparagus.  Importers are focused on providing quality and value to the U.S. market by supplying various value-added presentations.  These presentations are supplying U.S. households with a viable and healthy vegetable – Peruvian asparagus as a meal solution.

“We promote the Category Management Plan Outline for Fresh Peruvian Asparagus with the goal of equipping and supplying retailers and industry at large with the necessary information that is outlining the health benefits, value and convenience of fresh Peruvian asparagus,” states PAIA coordinator, Priscilla Lleras.

The Plan is available from any member of the Peruvian Asparagus Importer’s Association or by contacting their coordinator Priscilla Lleras.

The association will focus even greater efforts in 2012 on spreading the positive word to industry trade press, supermarkets and consumers concerning the benefits of fresh asparagus through articles, advertisements, direct-communication, and trade show participation.  The association anticipates increasing consumption and demand for fresh asparagus in 2012.
