PAIA Welcomes Walter Yager As New Co-Chairman

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 15, 2011 — The Peruvian Asparagus Importers Association (PAIA) has begun 2011 emphasizing on their commitment to advancing the asparagus industry and focusing on objectives that will enhance and benefit the overall trade.

PAIA MISSION STATEMENT

The Peruvian Asparagus Importers Association (PAIA) is an organization of US companies involved in the trade of importing fresh Peruvian asparagus within North America. We are committed to improving the process and present a united forum through which dialogue and progress is achieved. We represent the industry to the trade and focus on issues of political and logistical importance.

PAIA Chairmen are focused on industry issues as well as advancing the asparagus category as a whole. The Peruvian Asparagus Importers Association announces that they have a new East Coast Co-Chairmen for 2011. The Co-Chairmen for the 2010-2011 term; West Coast Chair – Chris Martin of Gourmet Trading, Los Angeles, California and newly elected East Coast Chair – Walter Yager of Alpine Fresh, Miami, Florida.

Chris Martin, West Coast Co-Chair states “As an association, we will enhance industry focus on increasing the consumption of fresh asparagus in the US market through aggressive retail and food service promotions. These promotions will be centered around the nutritional value and ease of preparation that fresh asparagus offers the US consumers.”

Walter Yager, East Coast Co-Chair adds, “Today’s consumers are looking for convenience and value. Our objectives are to convey exactly that by partnering with retailers and providing quality products for the consumers. The ultimate goal is to enhance the trade and boost consumption through market development – we are prepared to investigate and pursue opportunities to accomplish this goal.”

PAIA Coordinator, Priscilla Lleras states “our plan on continuing the coordination and production of reports such as the Peruvian Asparagus Category Management Plan Outline which identifies market growth and trends, industry facts, as well as information that will aid retailers in the marketing and promotion for Peruvian Asparagus.

The association will focus even greater efforts in 2011 on spreading the positive word to trade press, supermarkets and consumers concerning the benefits of fresh asparagus. Through articles, advertisements, direct-communication, and trade show participation, the association anticipates increasing consumption and demand for fresh asparagus in 2011.
