Organics Unlimited Introduces Fair Trade Certified Bananas From Mexico

San Diego, CA — Organics Unlimited is now the first provider of organic Fair Trade Certified™ bananas from Mexico. With their growing area the closest proximity to the US, this means that they can now provide organic bananas under the Fair Trade Certified label with a turnaround of four days from harvest to market.

“While we’ve long been involved with providing support for the communities in Mexico where our bananas are grown, we’re excited to also now be able to offer a Fair Trade option for our customers,” say Organics Unlimited president, Mayra Velazquez de Leon. “We realize that many consumers who buy our bananas are familiar with the Fair Trade label, and adding this option is not only good for the workers and their communities, but also a positive recognition of consumer preferences.”

“We are thrilled to be working with Organics Unlimited to launch the first Fair Trade Certified organic bananas from Mexico,” says Paul Rice, President and CEO of Fair Trade USA. “Demand for Fair Trade organic bananas continues to rise thanks to growing consumer awareness, and Fair Trade community development funds are allowing growers to bring much-needed services to their communities, including scholarships, health care, improved housing and micro-enterprise.”
