Ocean Mist Farms & Rouses Attempt To Set Record With Artichoke Display

NEW ORLEANS – To support spring peak season artichoke sales this year, Ocean Mist Farms and Rouses Supermarkets are working together to set a new world record for building the world’s largest fresh artichoke display on Saturday, April 21, at the Rouses Supermarkets store at 4500 Tchoupitoulas Street in New Orleans.
The Rouses Markets team will use 20,000 fresh green globe Ocean Mist Farms artichokes to build the display in the shape of New Orleans' beloved symbol: the Fleur-di-lis. The display, expected to take 20 hours to complete, will be photographed and measured for certification by the Guinness Book of World Records.
“Artichokes are a big part of our food culture here in New Orleans and we did a little investigating and learned there is no record-setting display for fresh vegetables,” said Joe Watson, director of produce, Rouses Supermarkets.
The display will be unveiled on Saturday, April 21, at 11:30 a.m., with a special appearance by “Arti” the artichoke and Dale Huss, vice president artichoke production, Ocean Mist Farms. In addition, Rouses will be showing shoppers how to clean and prepare an artichoke for cooking, and will be serving up “easy baked artichokes” with chipotle mayo.
April marks the peak season for Ocean Mist Farms artichokes with a good supply of green globe artichokes shipping now out of Castroville, Calif., to grocery stores nationwide.
