(TRENTON) – New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher will provide opening remarks on Saturday, February 26 at a workshop designed to increase the amount of Jersey Fresh produce consumed by New Jersey school children.
The Farm to School Distribution Solutions and Supply Chain Forum will bring together school food service professionals, school administrators, New Jersey growers, producers, and distributors and people involved in the Farm to School movement.
The workshop will explore how to plan for, move and integrate more local fruits and vegetables into New Jersey school meals and was organized by the Department of Agriculture, New Jersey Farm Bureau, Fair Food and the New Jersey Farm to School Network.
The keynote speaker will be Tony Geraci, a National Food Service Consultant and the former Food Service Director of Baltimore City Schools, which has a successful farm to school program.
Diane Holtaway of Rutgers Food Innovation Center will discuss a current Farm to School project in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture through a USDA grant to develop products made from Jersey Fresh produce for school meals.
There also will be panel discussions of food service, distributors and growers and producers.
The Farm to School Supply Chain Forum will be held 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Rutgers EcoComplex, 1200 Florence-Columbus Rd., Bordentown, NJ.
