Pick a raw chokeberry off a bush and pop it in your mouth — you might cringe a little, but your body might thank you.
Chokeberries, also known as aronia berries, are native to the Midwest and could be the next popular fruit grown locally.
The berries are high in antioxidants, which may intrigue healthy lifestyle enthusiasts.
Their taste is best described as slightly sour and their texture is a bit astringent, but some researchers are calling aronia berries the next super food.
"You'd give these to a stranger raw and they'd think you're crazy for growing them," said producer Mary Griess.
