Bard Valley, Calif. – Tour de Fresh Premier Sponsor Natural Delights is pleased to announce that Jennifer Gerard, Director of Nutrition of Monterey Peninsula Unified School District, and Michael Deusebio, Senior Director of C&S Wholesale Grocers, will ride on behalf of the brand in this year’s event.
Deusebio and Gerard will cycle approximately 300 miles from N.C. to Atlanta in October as part of the annual Tour de Fresh event, which raises money to donate salad bars to schools across the country through Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools.
Deusebio, an amateur racer for over 25 years, will ride in support of Martinez Unified School District, while Gerard, an avid cyclist and nutritionist, will ride in support of Upland Unified School District. Together, Gerard and Deusebio plan to raise $10,000 to place at least one salad bar in each district. Natural Delights will support its riders throughout their training by providing care packages, including Medjool dates and Date Rolls for sustained energy.
“I love being a part of such a grassroots event like Tour de Fresh because it gives produce industry professionals the opportunity to join together to influence positive change,” said Deusebio. “It was an incredible experience to witness a salad bar donation during our ride last year, and I can’t wait to do it again in October.”
“I’m thrilled to be riding in this year’s Tour de Fresh after seeing the positive impact that Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools had on my district over the last few years,” said Gerard. “I’m passionate about providing healthier options for our students, so this event is giving me the opportunity to affect the lives of thousands of students in California.”
Natural Delights has supported Tour de Fresh since its inception in 2013, and continues its commitment to the event as a Premier and Finish Line Sponsor in 2015. Natural Delights will not only provide samples for their own riders, but to all 55 riders throughout their training. In October, the brand will also be included in rider training bags and available at the finish line, as Medjool dates are excellent sources of potassium, which aids in muscle recovery.
