Tropicals are a great way to add excitement and incremental sales to any produce department and M&M is ready to help. M&M is headquartered in Miami and grows, packs and markets over 40 tropical roots, fruits and vegetables.
“M&M specializes in tropical roots such as boniato, yucca and malanga,” explains Mark Vertrees, M&M’s Marketing Director. “Tropical roots are basically highly nutritious potatoes. Most retailers are unaware that these are tropical meal solutions in a struggling economy. Many Hispanic cultures have been eating tropical roots for hundreds of years and wouldn’t consider a meal complete without them. When money gets tight, these products offer value because of their high nutritional content,”
explains Vertrees.
M&M knows that most progressive retailers have Hispanics on their radar screen and is ready to help them. With over 45.5 million Hispanics in the U.S. representing 15% of the population, this market continues to grow. Between 2000 and 2007 alone, the number of Hispanics grew in 2,991 of America’s 3,141 counties. By 2050, the Hispanic population is expected to grow to 97.2 million or 29.2% of America’s population.
