Kingsville, ON (June 21st) – Mastronardi Produce/SUNSET® tomatoes have done it yet again. For the third year in a row, Mastronardi this weekend took top honors at the 2010 Hottest Tomato Competition, this time taking home the top 6 tomato awards for Best Cocktail, Best Bite Size, Best Specialty, Best Roma, The People’s Choice Award, and the Best Overall Tomato.
As a part of the annual Tomato Capital of Canada Event presented by REACH International in Leamington, Ontario, Mastronardi took top honors with its SUNSET® tomatoes for the following categories:
Best Cocktail Tomato – Campari® Best Roma Tomato – SUNSET® Romana
Best Bite Size Tomato – Splendido™ Best Specialty Tomato – Zima™
Best Overall Tomato – Zima™ The People’s Choice Award – Zima™

The Campari®, Romana, Splendido™, and Zima™ tomatoes are just a few of the more than 100 different varieties of tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers that Mastronardi grows and markets under its nationally recognized SUNSET® brand of produce.
New for the competition in 2010 was a category for Bell Peppers for which Mastronardi also took the top awards for the Best Red, Best Orange, and Best Green Peppers. With the tomato & pepper awards combined, Mastronardi won an impressive 9 trophies for its gourmet greenhouse vegetables.
The general public was able to sample all the different tomato varieties in the competition throughout the weekend. The display area for the Zima™ Tomato was the busiest of them all with customers repeatedly returning & waiting for the sample plate to be refilled.
