Mark DeMichaelis Of State Garden/Olivia's Organics Wins NEPC Person Of The Year Award

Foxborough, MA — Mark DeMichaelis, president/CEO of Chelsea, MA-based State Garden/Olivia’s Organics, was the recipient of the 2012 New England Produce Person of the Year award, presented at the recent New England Produce Council Expo, held at the Gillette Stadium – home of the New England Patriots — in Foxborough, MA.

Presented by Ken Whitacre, publisher and editorial director of PRODUCE BUSINESS magazine, the award recognized the achievements and hard work of the produce wholesaler and fresh-cut processor, who has a long family history in the produce industry. DeMichaelis shepherded his company “from a small regional New England business to a major East Coast company that was named Ahold’s ‘Vendor of the Year’ in 2011,” said Whitacre.

In addition, the members of NEPC singled out his charitable work under Olivia’s Organics Charitable Foundation, named after his daughter. Proceeds from the foundation have gone to the Greater Boston Food Bank, the Chelsea Boys & Girls Club, Produce for Kids and the Make A Wish Foundation, just to name a few beneficiaries.

DeMichaelis joins the list of produce dignitaries who have also won the NEPC award: Paul Kneeland, Jack Salamon, Domenic D’Antuono, Will Wedge, Mike Giza, Mike Maguire and Bob McGowan.
