Mango Mania Display Contest Kicks Off In July For Retail Chains With Up To 50 Stores

Orlando, Fla.– Throughout the month of July, the National Mango Board (NMB) will host a Mango Mania Display Contest. More than $10,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to 27 winning produce department managers. The contest is designed specifically for individual stores or small chains with up to 50 stores. All entries must be received at the NMB office by Aug. 20, 2012, so produce department managers should start making plans now to build the best ever mango display!

The NMB is looking for big, beautiful mango displays that show creativity and educate shoppers about mangos. All displays must be in place for at least seven days between July 1 and July 31, 2012 in order to qualify for the prizes.

With great participation from retailers last year, this is the second year the NMB will be holding the Mango Mania Display contest for retailers with up to 50 stores. “Small retailers are very important to the mango industry and since our ongoing retail promotions program is geared to large and mid-sized chains, this contest is our way of helping smaller retailers boost their mango sales and win prizes along the way,” said NMB Director of Marketing, Megan McKenna.

Prizes will be awarded by the NMB in three store categories: one to five registers, six to nine registers and ten registers or more. In each category, nine prizes will be available, including $1,000 for first place, $750 for second place, $500 for third place, and $200 each for six honorable mention winners. The Mango Mania Display Contest POS Kit is available on request. Retailers who wish to participate should visit www.mango.org/contest to request a kit and get more information about the contest. The kit includes the contest flyer with the official rules and entry form along with several pieces of point-of-sale material, such as educational header cards for selecting and cutting, nutrition information and mango recipes.

Mango suppliers should encourage their retailers to participate and visit www.mango.org/contest for detailed instructions and to request a POS kit.

About National Mango Board

The National Mango Board is a national promotion and research organization, which is supported by assessments from both domestic and imported mangos. The board was designed to drive awareness and consumption of fresh mangos in the U.S. One cup of mango is only 100 calories, an excellent source of vitamins A and C, a good source of fiber and an amazing source of tropical flavor.

Mango availability per capita has increased 35% since 2005 to an estimated 2.53 pounds per year in 2011. Mango import volume for 2011 was 810 million pounds. Learn more at www.mango.org.
