Leamington, ON Leamington, Ontario, the tomato capital of Canada, held its annual Greenhouse Competition this past weekend. Benefiting REACH International, a relief and education provider for underprivileged children and families in Uganda, an overwhelming number of entries were taken in for best greenhouse grown bell pepper, cucumber and tomato. Winners were announced after the onerous task of judging all of these fine products, was taken on by individuals from the supermarket industry, the Ministry of Agriculture and local media representatives. JemD Farms were pleased to have taken 1st place in the Best Hot House Bite Size tomato category with their Artisan Series Cherry on the Vine and the variety also earned them “grand daddy” of accolades, Best Overall Hot House Tomato for 2012.
“We are honored to have been awarded the prestigious title of “Best Overall Hot House Tomato” says JemD Farms President, Jim DiMenna, “our growers are truly passionate about growing and harvesting the best in taste and appearance”. “Our award winning cherry tomato variety is grown here in Canada and at our farms in Mexico making the bite sized cherry available all year long.” says DiMenna. “There are a lot of quality tomato producers in Canada, but only one gets to claim the title of “Best Overall Tomato” and we are proud to be the winner”.
JemD Farms launched their Artisan Series earlier this year, which includes innovative produce varieties like, their Chef’s Collection, Scarlet Pearl Grape Tomatoes, Piccolo Cocktail Cucumbers, Cocoa Tomatoes, Rosado Pink tomatoes and the Heritage Beefsteak tomatoes in addition to their award winning Cherry-On-The-Vine tomatoes. Where can you taste the award-winning tomato? Just visit your local supermarket’s produce department and ask for Golden Sun, Cherry Tomatoes and they will source it for you.
