The Idaho Potato Commission (IPC) is Celebrating the 2010 Idaho® Potato Crop with an All Star Line-Up of Recipes, Tips and a Sweepstakes That Promise to Fuel Potato Lovers and Football Fans All Season Long

The first Idaho® potatoes of the season have been harvested and according to the experts, Idaho's unique and favorable growing conditions of warm days, cool nights, mineral-rich volcanic soil and fresh mountain water have helped produce an abundant crop of high-quality spuds. This year, it is estimated that Idaho growers will harvest approximately 295,000 acres, that's more than 11 billion pounds of potatoes in just six-weeks (late-August through early-October).

"This year's crop looks fantastic – Mother Nature was good to the Idaho® potato growers! The quality of spuds couldn't be better!" explained Frank Muir, President & CEO, Idaho Potato Commission. "In addition to a superb crop, we've kicked off the year with an exciting and impactful line-up of marketing programs that I'm certain consumers across the country will love."

The IPC announced in early September a six-year sponsorship of the Boise State University (BSU) and University of Idaho (UI) football teams making Idaho's famous potatoes the "official team tater" and giving Idaho® potatoes a significant presence in both Bronco Stadium and the Kibbie Dome.
