Ontario, NY – Earlier this month construction began on Intergrow’s newest expansion in New York. The site will be a 10acre lit greenhouse, located within 24 hours of nearly 60% of the U.S. population. The facility will bring new jobs to Upstate NY and bring more fresh, local produce through the winter months.
“We’ve found success here in NY throughout the years. Not only are we in an ideal climate for the greenhouses, but we’re in close proximity to major markets.” co-owner and President Dirk Biemans commented. “We’ve also had success in recruiting local labor and talent here in Upstate NY. Over 70% of our employees are residents of New York State.”
Foundation work will be completed this fall, with construction continuing in the spring. The company plans to harvest their first crop out of the new greenhouse in the fall of next year. This expansion will complete phase 2 of 3 for the Ontario, NY location, increasing their total amount of acreage under lights for production through the winter months.
“We’ve seen increased demand for greenhouse grown produce, especially through the winter months.” Says Kris Gibson, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “We’re able to provide local produce 365 days a year, safely and sustainability. We’re excited about this new growth!
Intergrow Greenhouses is the largest greenhouse grower in New York state, operating out of three separate facilities. They utilize artificial light to produce a variety of tomatoes year-round in their facilities, including TOV, cherry on the vine, grape, medley and beefsteak tomatoes.
