Riverside, CA — Index Fresh is excited to offer the late season avocado variety, the California Lamb Hass. A short season from July to September makes this Hass variety a special fruit.
“This season Index Fresh had tremendous success bringing the California Gem variety to market. Highlighting lesser-known California varieties is something our company finds extremely beneficial. Opening new doors to our customers allows for different conversations,” said John Dmytriw, Director of Sales and Marketing at Index Fresh.
The California Lamb Hass peels nicely, and ranges in size from large to jumbo (32-36- 40-48). The skin is pebbly in texture and turns dark when ripened. Often the fruit will turn color while on the tree, a subtle indicator that it’s ready to be picked.
“The Lamb’s flavor profile is smooth and creamy, always gaining the approval of even the most sophisticated avocado enthusiasts. Index Fresh will begin packing Lamb Hass in July, with this year’s season extending into August and possibly September,” said Dmytriw.
The California Lamb Hass is a late season variety with origins tracing back to the 80’s, when researchers from UC Riverside planted avocado seedlings at the Lamb Family Ranch in Camarillo, CA. The Lamb seedling was then identified for further study, largely in part of its promising traits, as it was very similar to the Hass variety.
