West Des Moines, Iowa On Feb 3, 2010, Hy-Vee presented the Juvenile Diabetes
Research Foundation (JDRF) with a $5,000 check to go towards the nonprofits efforts to
find a cure for type 1 diabetes. The donation which was presented at Hy-Vees
corporate office in Iowa was made possible by a prize drawing held by Sun World
International at last years PMA Fresh Summit. Hy-Vee Assistant Vice President of
Produce Purchasing Ron Coles was the lucky winner.
Juvenile diabetes first struck the Hy-Vee family when company cofounder Charles
Hydes son died from the disease. Today juvenile diabetes is still an issue that affects
families across the country and finding a cure is a cause that is near and dear to the
hearts of our employees, Hy-Vee Vice President of Media Relations Ruth Comer said.
In whats been a particularly tough period for industries and families alike, we wanted to
show our appreciation for the success we had in 2009 particularly with our
SCARLOTTA SEEDLESS brand grapes, Sun World Vice President of Sales &
Marketing Gordon Robertson said. Were glad to share a portion of our proceeds from
last years crop to support Hy-Vees dedication to communities and charitable giving.
