Modesto, Ca – Harris Moran, a worldwide leader in vegetable seeds, and a member of the HM.Clause Business Unit inside the Limagrain vegetable seed division, announced the increased availability of Origami – the latest cantaloupe in a long line of varietal successes from a company known for its quality, reliability, and market innovations in melons. Origami combines remarkable plant vigor and excellent internal fruit quality, with an exceptional taste rarely seen this early in the season.
“Consumers continue to demand great tasting cantaloupe earlier and earlier in the season, “said HM.Clause Melon Product Team Manager Denis Balen. “These demands have driven seed producers to work hard to combine a great tasting product with early maturity. We think Origami gives consumers the best of both worlds and we look forward to working with our customers to get these great tasting melons into their hands.”
Introduced in small volumes last year, Origami saw great success in the entire operator production chain. Growers appreciated its robustness and adaptability to open-field crops; buyers prized this variety's excellent fruit quality and its extended shelf life, and consumers enjoyed its delicious, mouth-watering flavor. This year looks to be an even bigger success. Harvested from the beginning of May, Origami is the ideal melon to begin the growing season with. Its unique ability to combine great taste, with early availability will ensure the popularity of this variety for years to come.
Origami's first harvest has begun in Arizona and Southern California, and will continue through the beginning of July in areas further north.
