The complete Educational Seminar details and schedule have been announced by the Georgia Watermelon Association for their upcoming Annual Meeting. The event, to be held January 24-26, 2014, at Sea Palms Golf and Tennis Resort in St. Simons, Georgia, offers watermelon growers the opportunity to learn the latest trends and techniques in watermelon growing. It also offers a trade show, networking opportunities and the much anticipated Watermelon Queen Competition.
The Educational Seminar begins at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, with an informal breakfast. The actual sessions begin at 8:30 a.m. with Watermelon Varieties Updates led by Dr. Jonathan R. Schultheis, Professor, Departmental Extension Leader – Horticultural Science, NC State University.
Dr. David Langston, UGA Tifton Plant Pathologist, will lead the next session, Updates on Phytophthora Fruit Rot and Fusarium Wilt of Watermelon. The Educational Seminar wraps up with the Georgia Watermelon Association Meeting with Rich Chastain, GWA President, presiding.
The Georgia Watermelon Association Educational Seminar is open to all growers and there is no registration fee to attend.
