General Produce's 'On The Plate With Fat's Family Restaurant Group' Draws Impressive Crowd

SACRAMENTO, Calif.  – General Produce’s vision of creating a distinctive, collaborative celebration to highlight the best California grown foods in the midst of the 2015 Sacramento Farm-to-Fork Festival came to fruition and exceeded all expectations.

General Produce, a third-generation, locally-owned, family-run distribution company partnered with longtime customer, Fat’s Family Restaurant Group, to host “On the Plate” during this year’s Farm-to-Fork Festival on September 26.

The large marquee booth (a 50’ x 60’ tent and outside display space) attracted folks with a vintage General Produce’s delivery truck, draped in fresh floral, fruits and vegetables. The colorful fall hardscape provided the perfect backdrop for snapshots. See a full gallery of photographs from the day at General Produce Newsroom. This display was the most photographed of the day for press and festival attendees, posting to Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

The crowds were drawn by the visually attractive displays and then stayed for the live cooking demonstrations. The demos featured all local ingredients prepared in signature recipes by chefs from each of Fat’s four locations and highlighted ingredients sourced from top-quality local purveyors including:

  • Van Groningen & Sons
  • Ratto Brothers
  • Vierra Farms
  • Premier Mushrooms
  • Lundberg Family Farms
  • Salle Orchards
  • Mary’s Chickens

“We couldn’t be happier with the results and turnout of this event,” said Linda Luka, director of marketing and communications for General Produce. “We’d like to thank Sacramento CVB for their gracious support of our vision, Fat’s Family Restaurant Group for their partnership and most importantly, each of the local farmers who made this event possible with their high quality, local ingredients. We’re already tumbling creative ideas to top this year’s grand plan in 2016!”

Attendees were entertained and educated with especially prepared dishes, cooking tips, recipes and access to some of the fine farmers who grow our food. Swag bags were given out to all those who attended one of the cooking demonstrations and four grand prize gift baskets given to lucky winners at each show. General Produce also hosted a giveaway on the company’s newly launched Instagram account https://instagram.com/generalproduce.

“We’re so proud to have partnered with these amazing local vendors and customers to create a wonderful culinary experience for each person who visited our booth,” said Tom Chan, CEO of General Produce. “The Sacramento Farm-to-Fork Event continues to grow and we’re excited to see what’s ahead for ‘On the Plate’ 2016.”
