Freshfel Europe, the European Fresh Produce Association, held today its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Brussels, Belgium. Freshfel members elected together with a new Board Mr Philippe Henri (Creno/UNCGFL, France) as its new President, Mr Luc Clerx (Zespri) as its new Vice-President and Jérôme Fabre (Compagnie Fruitière) as Treasurer for the term 2012-2014. The association also celebrated on this occasion ten years of existence, looking back at a decade of successful operations for the benefit of the fresh produce industry while at the same time paving the way to move ahead.
Members and associated members of Freshfel Europe came together today in Brussels for the Annual General Meeting of the association, celebrating also the 10th Anniversary of Freshfel. Incoming President Mr Philippe Henri, who was previously chairman of the Freshfel Wholesale and Distribution Division (2002-2008) and most recently served as Vice-President of Freshfel Europe, stated after his election: “I want to thank all Freshfel members for their confidence in electing me in the position of Chairman of the association. I am honoured by the support and this is a strong encouragement to conduct my duty for the benefit of the sector as a whole. I will do my utmost to coordinate Freshfel’s structure to best collate industry opinions and secure that Freshel is not only reactive but remains proactive on all policy issues but also on other industry collective topics where we should take the lead.”
Freshfel members unanimously recognized on this occasion also the dedication of Ramon Rey in the work of Freshfel, who was leading the association from 2008-2012. He stated: “While departing, I am leaving behind a strong and professional association, well positioned to assist the sector in coping with the ever increasing challenges. Well equipped with the support of its members Freshfel will continue its efforts to build the most favourable environment for fresh produce in Europe.”
The renewed Board, who was also elected at this AGM, seeks more than ever before to represent the whole fresh produce chain, from production down to retail, as it incorporates representatives from all business segments. The new composition of the Board will allow the association’s work to continue to be steered by a strong team of diversified experience.
Finally, Freshfel members also discussed the present and future situation of the fruit and vegetables sector, together with invited speakers and guests from the public and private sector, as Freshfel will be facing in the upcoming months an impressive European policy agenda.
Philippe Binard, General Delegate of Freshfel Europe, presented to members and associated members also the yearly Activity Report for the period 2010-2011. This 36-page report reviews the policy of Freshfel and the various areas in which the association has been involved in the last twelve months.
