Fresh Produce & Floral Council Members Choose School Districts For Salad Bar Donations

LA MIRADA, CA – Late last year, the Fresh Produce & Floral Council (FPFC) Board of Directors made a decision to donate nine salad bars to California schools through Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools.  Rather than choose internally, the Board invited FPFC members to vote to determine which school districts would be recipients of the donation.

The donation follows two salad bars donated by the FPFC in 2012, one in Anaheim, CA, and one in Sacramento, CA.

“We have never seen such enthusiasm from our members in regards to supporting a charitable cause,” FPFC President Carissa Mace says.  “Because they are so interested in Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools and the Council’s involvement, we decided to let them determine where the salad bar equipment would go.”

Choosing from districts that had applied to receive salad bars, FPFC members chose four in Northern California and five in Southern California.

Northern California:
1. Sacramento City Unified School District—Sacramento, CA
2. Monterey Peninsula Unified School District—Monterey, CA
3. Cupertino Unions Elementary School District—Cupertino, CA
4. Twin Rivers Unified School District—North Highlands, CA

Southern California:
5. LA Unified School District—Los Angeles, CA
6. Anaheim Unions High School District—Anaheim, CA
7. Oxnard School District—Oxnard, CA
8. Hemet Unified School District—Hemet, CA
9. Kern High School District—Bakersfield, CA

“We are so pleased to have found such a fantastic way of executing our mission,” Mace says.  “Not only are we helping local kids in a very fundamental way, we are helping develop eating habits that will sustain the industry through the next generation.”

The FPFC’s donations will count toward the goal of 350 salad bars in California schools set by United Fresh Produce Association.
