Farms Are Sprouting All Over Brooklyn

Brooklyn’s field of greens are no longer just for the hipster or yuppie with an obsession for local food.
City supermarkets have inked deals or are in talks with competing rooftop farm companies spreading their seeds around the borough.
Leading the mass produce plans are Pathmark, Waldbaum's, and The Food Emporium – all owned by Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, or A&P – which has partnered with BrightFarms to build a two-acre greenhouse on top of a Sunset Park warehouse on Third Avenue.
“We’ve said this from the beginning; we don’t want to be successful with fancy customers,” said BrightFarm CEO Paul Lightfoot. “We want to change the way America eats.
