Equal Exchange Highlights ‘Unconventional’ Supply Chain With Banana Month Campaign

W. Bridgewater, Massachusetts – March brings the launch of Equal Exchange’s annual Banana Month – a campaign to feature the organic, small-farmer and Fairtrade supply chain that make Equal Exchange bananas a rare success. The theme is ‘Unconventional’, a nod to the total departure from the standard system.

In addition to re-designed in-store POS and merchandising, the month will feature a blog series on the appearance of TR4 in Latin America and its unique challenges for small farmers, a webinar on women in the banana industry, and social media detailing the journey bananas make from farm to store. An ‘unconventional’ journey that begins with small-farmer cooperatives and ends with independent retailers and conscious eaters. Equal Exchange is proud to be pioneering a radically different business model that prioritizes people over profit.

In addition, Equal Exchange is launching its Unconventional Banana Zine 2.0. The Zine is a collection of artistic expression from across the supply chain, ranging from poetry and photography to recipes and essays. Last year’s Zine featured a broad array of stakeholder contributions including farmers, store produce staff, warehouse workers, and banana ripeners. Check out last year’s Zine and this year’s Call for Submissions. The webinar will take place on Wednesday, March 18 1pm ET – sign up here.

For over 30 years, Equal Exchange has built an alternative model of trade that directly links small-farmer cooperatives and consumers through long-term fair trade partnerships. Equal Exchange produce works through these alternative supply chains to bring bananas and avocados to the U.S. market.
