Eosta reveals Organic Raingrown Initiative for Avocados and Oranges Saved 1.6 Billion Litres of Water in 2025

WADDINXVEEN, Netherlands — Leading organic fruit importer-marketer Eosta has announced that its innovative Organic Raingrown® project, which operates in regions where increasing water scarcity is a reality, saved an estimated 1.6 billion liters of water during 2025 for avocado and orange producers – equivalent to the daily water consumption of approximately 11 million Europeans. In avocados alone, the company calculated that 1.4 billion litres were saved during the 12 months, making the crop by far the largest contributor.
In results revealed at Fruit Logistica 2026, the biggest yearly gathering of the global fresh produce sector, Eosta disclosed that its Organic Raingrown products together achieved a water saving of no less than 1.6 billion litres. Unlike irrigated agriculture, the water used for the Organic Raingrown initiative is not extracted from scarce drinking and sanitary water, but comes entirely from natural rainfall.
At a time of increasing water scarcity, the Organic Raingrown concept demonstrates how organic cultivation using only natural rainwater can lead to very substantial water savings, while staying within the limits of what nature offers in each production region.
Avocados lead the way, oranges grow in importance
With 1.4 billion litres in savings, Organic Raingrown Avocados make up the backbone of the Organic Raingrown programme and form a structural pillar within the fruit and vegetable range. At the same time, the contribution of Organic Raingrown oranges should not be underestimated.
Eosta calculated that 178 million litres of water were saved during 2025 by partner citrus growers in Peru, based on the Water Footprint Network’s water footprint calculation of 500 litres of water per kilo of oranges.
Launched in August 2025, the ‘July Gold’ Organic Raingrown oranges were the result of two years of intensive preparation, produced in close collaboration with Kivinaki, a cooperative of smallholder farms. Thanks to the enthusiastic reception they received on the European market in 2025, the Organic Raingrown Jucy Gold oranges will be returning to the Eosta range for 2026, with availability from June to September.
