NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — Terra Tech Corp (OTCQX: TRTC) ("Terra Tech" or the "Company"), a vertically integrated cannabis-focused agriculture company, today announced its subsidiary, Edible Garden®, has received the following certifications: USDA Certified Organic, The Non-GMO Project certification and the Kosher Certification. These follow the Global Food Safety Initiative ("GFSI") Certification issued in September 2015.
Terra Tech's subsidiary, Edible Gardens, supplies local and sustainably grown hydroponic produce to major grocery stores including Shoprite, Walmart, Krogers and others throughout New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Maryland, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and the Midwest. The growing process utilizes time-tested, classic Dutch hydroponic farming methods to grow fresh, locally grown herbs and leafy greens in a safe and healthy environment.
"The organic and 'Non-GMO' industries are experiencing record growth," commented Derek Peterson, CEO of Terra Tech. "Sales of organic food and non-food products in the United States rose 11 percent in 2014, with organic fruits and vegetables continuing to be the biggest-selling organic category, making up more than 36 percent of all organic food sales. It is our firm belief that the increasing demand for organic and non-GMO food is part of a long term trend and we are committed to expanding our offering and brand recognition in this industry. We pride ourselves on our naturally-sourced portfolio of food and sustainable practices and are delighted to have been awarded these certifications as they support our reputation as providers to high-quality, natural produce."
"In addition, we have also been awarded the Kosher Certification, enabling us to differentiate our products and access a wide and diversified market of consumers," concluded Mr. Peterson.
Edible Garden is actively expanding its offering to increase its penetration of both current and potential retail partners.
USDA Certified Organic
Organic certification verifies that your farm or handling facility complies with the USDA organic regulations. This certification allows you to sell, label, and represent your products as organic. Farms all over the world may be certified to the USDA organic standards. Most farms and businesses that grow, handle, or process organic products must be certified. Certification allows you to call your product "organic" and to use the USDA seal.
The Non-GMO Project
The retailers who started the Non-GMO Project were motivated by a simple idea. They believed that consumers in North America should have access to clearly-labeled non-GMO food and products, now and in the future. That conviction continues to guide the Non-GMO Project, as North America's only independent verification for products made according to best practices for GMO avoidance.
What does "Non-GMO Project Verified seal" mean?
The verification seal indicates that the product bearing the seal has gone through our verification process. Our verification is an assurance that a product has been produced according to consensus-based best practices for GMO avoidance.
Kosher Certification
This certification verifies that the ingredients, production process, and/or food-service process complies with the standards of kashrut (Jewish dietary law) as stipulated in the Shulchan Arukh, the benchmark of religious Jewish law. The certification agency employs mashgichim (rabbinic field representatives) to make periodic site visits and oversee the food-production or food-service process in order to verify ongoing compliance. Each agency has its own trademarked symbol that it allows manufacturers and food-service providers to display on their products or in-store certificates; use of this symbol can be revoked for non-compliance.
