Divine Flavor (Nogales, AZ) will be bringing its exciting line of products into New York City in December as it participates in the New York Produce Show. Perishable News chatted with Pedro Batiz, vice president sales for Divine Flavor, to discuss the company’s expectations.

PN: Why New York? What do you anticipate accomplishing at this show?

Batiz: We are excited to participate. It’s the best way to reach buyers in the New York City area and it also attracts buyers from across the country. The East Coast represents a very important target market of around 20 million people. Business is a priority at this show so we believe it will be a great place to foster new relationships with buyers. Also, we just opened an office in Philadelphia, led by our East Sales Rep, Antonio Escobar, so we’ll be showing him around!

PN: What products will you showcase there?

Batiz: We are bringing an exciting line-up of our most popular items including the Magnifico tomato, Colorido Tomato, Tribelli Mini Peppers, and specialty grapes. As well, we will be showcasing our organic line which continues to increase in popularity. We offer a wide range of products including squash, tomatoes, brussels sprouts, pecans and many more fresh items. And, all of these products are backed by a coherent company – we practice and live our mission from top to bottom, all the way through.

PN:  What specific “novelty” products would we learn about from you at the show?

Batiz: We are always excited about the continued promotion of our specialty grape varieties (Cotton Candy, Jellyberry, Gummyberry), all developed through natural crossings. We also want to highlight our Tribelli mini peppers – they’re bite-size, almost 100 percent edible due to less seeds and thinner skins, and come in yellow, red, and orange. They’re as pleasing to the eye as the palate.

PN: Some very attractive products…so how do you reinforce these with your customers and their customers?

Batiz: We want buyers to learn our story so they can feel a deeper connection. We are a fresh produce innovation company focused on flavor, organics and sustainability. We’re very active on social media and are constantly interacting with those who enjoy our products. We have a transparent supply chain from the initial grower to your local shelves, so we know where our products are, how they got there and all the distribution partners in between. Most important, marketing and selling starts by listening to customer thoughts and aligning ourselves to the new trends of consumer behavior and the retail company vision.
