Oxnard, CA – The Deardorff family announced today the start of their Salinas Valley organic celery and leaf program. The program will be grown by the Bunn family and marketed by Deardorff Family Farms. The two fourth generation family farmers have come together to offer a combined 150 years of farming experience.
Farming the fertile Salinas Valley since the 1930s, the Bunn family quickly gained recognition for their high-quality produce. In the late 1980’s, they launched an organic program creating a strong following for their Bunny brand of organic vegetables. Since the 1930s, the Bunns’ commitment to their products, their land and the people they have
worked with has not waivered – holding strong to the legacy their great grandparents began.
The Deardorff family also started farming in the 1930’s – just a little further south in the Los Angeles area. The Deardorffs have a strong legacy for their quality fruits and vegetables, packed under the Sir William and Highland Ranch labels. The Deardorffs have been building their organic farming operation in Oxnard, California over the last several years and now offer over 15 organically grown commodities packed in the Deardorff Organics label.
“Organics have been amazing for our family and our business, and our relationship with the Bunns is a great opportunity to expand our offerings while preserving two strong family traditions”, says Tom Deardorff, II, president of Deardorff Family Farms. “Both our families are committed to organics, and to ensuring the health of the environment,
people and the community at large. The fact that the parallel paths of our two families have now crossed is just one more testament to how organics can bring together good things and good people.”
David Bunn, a fourth generation member of the family’s farming business agrees – “we are excited to be working with the Deardorffs and hope to build a long-lasting relationship to support our organic farming.”
This new program establishes a year-round supply of many of the commodities marketed by Deardorff Family Farms. Deardorff will primarily market the Bunn production using the Deardorff Organics label, but will have some special packs of the Bunny label available from time to time.
