New York – September 29, 2010 –Gourmet retailer Dean & DeLuca is partnering with Norwich Meadows Farm in Norwich, NY to bring customers locally grown, farm-fresh, organic produce.
Norwich Meadows Farm is a small-scale, certified organic farm that’s owned and run by husband and wife Zaid and Haifa Kurdieh. Beginning today, the farm will become the primary produce supplier for Dean & DeLuca’s 1150 Madison Avenue (at 85th) location. Now, Dean & DeLuca customers will be able to take home a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, grown just 4 hours northwest of New York City.
“We’re making a concerted effort to bring in more fresh, local fruits and vegetables,” said Bianca Boutell, Assistant General Manager of Dean & DeLuca on Madison Avenue. “Our customers like supporting local farmers, and Norwich Meadows Farm grows great, flavorful produce. The farm is well known among top NYC chefs, and we plan to introduce it to the larger NYC community.”
Dean & DeLuca’s Madison Avenue market is currently the only retailer through which Norwich Meadows Farm produce is available. Norwich Meadows Farm brings fresh produce to Manhattan's elite restaurants, including Blue Hill at Stone Barns and Union Square Hospitality Group. The farm also has a presence at local farmers’ markets.
“We are excited to work with Dean & DeLuca and bring our locally grown, organic fruits and vegetables to their customers,” said Zaid Kurdieh. “We will offer their customers the same high-quality service that we offer our customers at our stand in Union Square.”
Dean & DeLuca customers will have the opportunity to learn about the new produce offerings first-hand from Zaid. Zaid will regularly spend time at Dean & DeLuca’s Madison Avenue market, answering questions about where the produce comes from and how it is grown. On October 15 at 10:00am, he will lead a free, open-to-the-public discussion about local, sustainable produce and offer cooking tips. Anyone interested in attending can simply drop-in.
