D'Arrigo Brothers Invests In Hyde Leadership Charter School

New York City Council Member Rafael Salamanca, Jr. and representatives of D’Arrigo Brothers, one of the nation’s largest distributors of fresh fruits and vegetables toured Hyde Leadership Charter School, to view up close the incredible accomplishments that the students have achieved, made possible in large part due to the ongoing support provided to the school by D’Arrigo.

Over 90% of the students who attend Hyde Leadership Charter School graduate each year compared to just 47% of the high school students attending other schools in the South Bronx.

“This is a great example of how a local company is giving back to the community by investing in our children,” said Councilmember Rafael Salamanca, Jr. (D-Bronx). “Students in the South Bronx deserve greater access to AP courses as well as other educational opportunities, and I am pleased to know that D’Arrigo Brothers not only agree but have stepped up to provide solutions.”

Matthew D’Arrigo, Vice President of D’Arrigo Brothers says. “It is vital that the Bronx business community support the efforts of these educators to provide area students with an opportunity to succeed in school and to create the foundation that will allow these young and men and women to achieve professional success that is unfortunately not available to so many Bronx youngsters.”

Council Member Salamanca and Mr. D’Arrigo sat in on AP Calculus and AP English classes and interacted with the faculty and the students who are redefining education in the Bronx.

According to the school’s administration, D’Arrigo Brothers’ investment in Hyde’s AP program have enabled them to offer more robust programs, such as AP Calculus, which was offered for the first time this year, which prepares students for college success and for life. Hyde’s rigorous AP courses are an important aspect of Hyde’s Family-Based Character Education program, which D’Arrigo has been a vital financial supporter of.
