In the wake of a lawsuit filed against D’Arrigo Brothers Co. of New York, Teamster Local Union 202 and the Hunts Point Cooperative, D’Arrigo is aggressively firing back saying the lawsuit won’t be able to withstand the sunlight of a trial.
Ms. Gabriela D'Arrigo, Director of Communications for D’Arrigo Brothers has issued a strongly worded statement, explaining, “In a court of law, and under oath, facts will be revealed that not only demonstrate that this lawsuit is totally without merit but that this fourth generation family business has been built on integrity, fairness and respect. This is a company that seeks to create career opportunities for anyone with a work ethic. It has also provided some of the most demanding clientele in New York with produce in a fiercely competitive marketplace.
“We are incensed by the very idea that anyone would seek to tarnish our name with these kinds of defamatory allegations. We intend to aggressively defend ourselves in a court of law as well as reaffirm our reputation for integrity with our clients and throughout the industry,” she explained.
The plaintiff alleges that he was discriminated against by D’Arrigo Brothers during his lengthy tenure with the company.
“We will vigorously defend ourselves using truth as our defense,” stated Matthew D’Arrigo, president of the company.
“Prejudice and bigotry is not only personally repugnant to me and my family but it is totally contrary to how this company has built its leadership position in the marketplace. To suggest otherwise ignores the facts, ignores our heritage and ignores the laws of our land. We look forward to an early court date because there is more than a civil lawsuit on the line, it’s our individual reputations that have been assaulted by this allegation,” concluded Mr. D’Arrigo.
