DALLAS, Texas – The Dallas Fresh Food Association (DFFA) hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 21, 2019, to donate a salad bar to Faith Family Academy-Oak Cliff, a local school in Dallas. The salad bar will ensure the students have access to fresh fruits and vegetables during school hours and will educate them on the importance of forming healthy eating habits at a young age.
DFFA members and spectators watched as the salad bar was unveiled minutes before the students’ lunch period. The lines for the salad bar quickly flooded as students were eager to enjoy their new healthy lunch option.
“It was very exciting to be a part DFFA’s first salad bar donation,” said Michael Grinstead, DFFA board member. “Knowing some of the students at Faith Family Academy-Oak Cliff have difficulty accessing fresh fruits and vegetables at home, it is rewarding knowing DFFA is stepping in to ensure these healthy options are available at school.”
DFFA strives to ensure future generations have access and education to fresh foods, which is why the members are looking to donate at least two salad bars a year to local schools. Even though the first salad bar was donated only a few days ago, DFFA already has companies ready to support the purchase of the association’s next salad bar donation.
The salad bar was purchased through the United Fresh Start Foundation, which has donated over 5,000 salad bars across the country, benefiting nearly three million children. United Fresh believes every child should grow up with access to fresh, wholesome fruits and vegetables to ensure a stronger, healthier future.
The salad bar donated to Faith Family Academy-Oak Cliff was financed by Robinson Fresh, Hardie’s Fresh Foods, Land and Sea Proteins, National Produce Consultants, and The Grinstead Group. To learn more about sponsorships, donations, or events, visit the website at www.dallasffa.org.
