Culinary Specialty Produce Thrives At New York Produce Show & Conference

Culinary Specialty Produce pulled out all the stops at this year’s NYC Produce Show. “This year we went back to our roots,” reported Richard Leibowitz, the President of Culinary.  “For the past several years we have focused on our specialty potatoes by cooking them for samples and a full spread of our proprietary varieties. Last year we added the potato soup and the fresh squeezed organic orange juice and both were hits. This year we wanted to remind everybody that we are a full service specialty company so we had over 100 items on display. Our colorful display was a big hit and the inquiries are what we were looking for. We had four items for tasting and created a great curiosity among the attendees. We took a lot of names and so far the follow up has gone far beyond the potatoes and citrus we displayed in the past.”

“Setting up 100 items in a 10×8 space with a double cooking station was quite a challenge,” commented Mark Pittenger, Vice-President of sales for Culinary. “The New York crowd is not shy.  They are a lot of fun and went through our display trying to identify everything from Buddha Hands and Fiddlehead Ferns to Red Sunchokes and Long Stem Artichokes. The red and yellow Roasted Tomatoes blew away anyone who tasted them. Attendees were offered sautéed Fingerling potatoes, Fingerling potato soup, fresh squeezed organic Valencia orange juice and the tomatoes. We were a lunch stop and happy to do it. We were very busy throughout the whole show.”

“Produce Business and the EPC do a very nice job of bringing the tri-state produce community together,” said Leibowitz.  “This year we brought our entire staff so our office personnel had an opportunity to meet several of our growers and customers. We also recruited their help with all the preparation details. Every time we do one of these shows we get a rare opportunity to get closer to our customers in terms of who we are and what we are able to do. Our new office in California also helped in explaining the scope of our abilities.”
