Bob Castellini started working at the Castellini Group of Companies in 1967 when he was 25 years old. Since that time, he’s led its growth from a 35-employee company doing $2 million a year in fresh produce sales to a 2,000-employee business that did $1 billion in revenue last year.
At a time when high-tech companies like Facebook generate endless publicity despite unproven business models, the Castellini Co.’s success offers a lesson in fundamentals for any budding entrepreneur.
Vision is critical, but so is cash flow. Good leaders seek input, but they also understand the buck stops at the corner office. And success starts with hard work. Really hard work.
Today, Castellini Co. is one of the largest distributors of fruits, vegetables and floral items in the United States. On Thursday, Castellini will be honored with the Carl H. Lindner Jr. Award for Entrepreneurial and Civic Spirit at the Deloitte Cincinnati USA 100 luncheon.
