KINGSEY FALLS, QC – Cascades is proud to announce the launch of Ultratill TM , our most recent innovation in the new generation of mushroom containers boasting a lighter environmental footprint. Available to mushroom growers and packers across North America , Ultratill TM is made of low-density PETE (LDPETE)[1] that contains 80% recycled post-consumer material.
Lighter than comparable containers commonly found on the market, Ultratill TM provides enhanced environmental performance, demonstrating a 62% reduction in the CO 2 emissions produced during its life cycle compared to traditional mushroom containers made of HIPS[2]. Although lighter, Ultratill TM is a container that fully corresponds to user expectations because of its strength and appearance. At your grocer's, mushrooms packaged using an Ultratill TM tray can easily be identified by the Cascades logo under the container.
"Developing a container made with LDPETE, which is light and includes recycled material, is proof of Cascades' leadership position when it comes to caring for the environment, innovating and paying attention to our clients' concerns regarding the economic and environmental viability of our products," stated Mr. Luc Langevin , President and Chief Operating Officer of Cascades Specialty Products Group. "We are proud to offer Ultratill TM , an innovative mushroom container that allows our clients to reduce their environmental footprint."
This new Ultratill TM line is the result of Cascades' investment in improved manufacturing processes that require less raw materials, therefore diminishing the environmental footprint of the end product throughout its life cycle. The use of recycled material is another major factor in Ultratill TM 's great environmental performance. PETE, more commonly referred to as number 1 plastic, is recycled across Canada and primarily used in the production of single use water bottles.
Over and above its environmental advantages, Ultratill TM 's inferior weight can lead to lower costs with respect to the various stewardship programs for municipal solid waste recovery and processing services.
Ultratill TM is currently available in three sizes. Various other formats will become available over the next 12 months.
