California Giant Serves Up Kid Appeal With Fresh Berries In A Cone

Watsonville, CA – As a finalist in the Produce Marketing Association’s (PMA) annual Sensory Experience Recipe Contest at Fresh Summit 2012, California Giant’s Berry Yogurt Cones were examined, sniffed, tasted and touched on Sunday, October 28 by a discerning panel of 24 judges, 11 of whom were children, a new and enthusiastic addition to this year’s contest.

Out of the 46 recipes submitted, 11 were selected to be finalists and to showcase their product in a dish that would appeal to the senses of a group of top-level buyers, industry experts and, in particular, the taste buds of local children.

Fresh berries are already a hit with kids, so when California Giant combined sweet, plump strawberries, blueberries and blackberries with vanilla yogurt and granola and piled them into crispy waffle cones, the youthful judges could not contain their excitement, many of them finishing the whole thing, in spite of a menu consisting of 10 other dishes!

“Our Berry Yogurt Cones recipe is not only a healthy, easy and kid-friendly treat, it’s also mom-friendly because there’s no clean up,” said Cindy Jewell, Director of Marketing for California Giant. “It’s fun and versatile too. You can use any assortment of berries that are in season, a variety of yogurt flavors, and optional garnishes, such as lemon peel, shaved chocolate, chopped nuts, or drizzled honey.”

Whether eaten by themselves or served in a recipe, fresh berries are enjoyed by everyone in the family. For more recipes and information about California Giant berries, visit www.calgiant.com.
