Blueberry Export. Sea shipments proportion is forseen to increase regarding 2009.
So declared Inés Peláez, Argentinean Blueberry Committee manager.
For the previous season, 66% of the exports where destined for USA, almost entirely by air.
“Air cargo represents the main component for export costs”, says Peláez. “If last season’s value was to be modified in more than a 5%, this would be disastrous for the whole sector.”
The intention of the Argentinean Blueberry Committee members is that prices are not to be modified, especially when oil prices have remained stable to this date.
“A hypothetical increase in the rates would make producers’ rentability remarkably affected. The sector is alert and is already evaluating to increase maritime cargo proportion to its maximum, also taking into consideration all the inconvenients that the moving of Aeropuerto Jorge Newbery to Ezeiza could create, as this moving matches the peak of the blueberry season.”
The Argentinean Blueberry Committee represents 70% of argentine blueberry exports, and is created by the association of the leader export-companies in this market: Tecnovital, Berries del Plata, Hortifrut, Agroberries and Sunbelle Argentina.
