5K, Golf Fundraisers Support Industry Talent

Newark, Del. – Going to be in the Monterey, California area next month, for example for Produce Marketing Association’s (PMA) Foodservice Conference & Expo? Then you can have fun running, walking or golfing and support a worthy cause when Center for Growing Talent (CGT) hosts its annual Joe Nucci Memorial Golf Tournament on Friday, July 27, and its 5K Race for Talent at Foodservice on Saturday, July 28. Team and spectator tickets are also available for the Bocce for Talent tournament on Wednesday, July 25. Proceeds will support CGT’s work to help industry attract, develop and retain talent.

Entertain while investing in talent

This year’s Joe Nucci Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at the Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Course in Seaside, California, with stunning views of Monterey Bay. In addition to great business networking with old and new colleagues from across the fresh produce and floral supply chain, golfers can vie for a range of prizes including $10,000 for a hole in one, and chip and putt contests to earn gift cards.

“If you are looking for an opportunity to entertain your customers while in Monterey, why not join us on the green and support talent initiatives that will help us grow our industry,” said Michele Hoffman, CGT fundraising director.

The golf tournament will begin with breakfast at 7 am, then a shotgun start at 8 am. An awards lunch reception will follow. Golfers are encouraged to talk up industry career options with university students who will also attend the luncheon as part of CGT’s Career Pathways student-attraction program.

Individuals and foursomes are invited to register. For more information and to register, visit http://www.centerforgrowingtalent.org/programs-and-events/joe-nucci-golf.

Mann Packing’s Joe Nucci, who passed away in 2005 at the age of 40, was passionate about growing the fresh produce industry. The golf tournament named for him raises funds to develop innovative and exciting industry-specific talent solutions.

Get your steps in while helping aspiring talent to take theirs

CGT’s 5K Race for Talent is designed to gather members of our industry for a fun healthy competition. Runners and walkers will traverse a scenic 3.1-mile course along the Monterey Bay Coastal Trail.

If you are more creative than competitive, enter as a team and show your industry spirit for a chance to win Best Team Spirit, Best Team Attire, and Largest Team! The race will start at 7 am, and be followed by a continental breakfast and award ceremony at 8 am. Registrants will receive a swag bag with many goodies including a performance race t-shirt.

“I love a little healthy industry competition, and it really feels good to know that the proceeds are introducing promising university students to career choices in our industry,” says Marty Craner of B&C Fresh Sales, CGT board chair-elect and mentor to a Career Pathways student participant at the conference.

Not a morning person, or won’t be in town? You can support the cause by signing up for the Sleep-In Virtual Run.
