U.S. Retail-Beef Prices Climbed To Record In May, USDA Says

U.S. retail-beef prices rose to a record $4.687 a pound in May, according to Bill Hahn, an agricultural economist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service.
The price was up from a revised $4.623 in April, Hahn said today in a telephone interview. The price was also up from $4.443 a pound in May 2011, the USDA said today in a report on its website. The price is a composite that includes choice beef and other beef and hamburger values.
