Tyson Foods has officially left Cherokee, Iowa, after a yearslong standoff over an abandoned meat-processing plant there that had prompted city leaders to accuse the food giant of holding the town "hostage."
Iowa Food Group LLC will occupy Tyson's vacant processing plant on the outskirts of the northwest Iowa community. The company paid $2.35 million for the plant, according to the Cherokee County Recorder's Office.
Bill Anderson, executive director of Cherokee Area Economic Development, said the newly formed Iowa Food Group plans to hire some 100 people. The facility could open as early as January 2019.
