Shoppers Pick Pork For Holiday

LEWISBURG — The demand for Christmas ham is booming, Valley farmers say, reflecting an economy where the cautious consumer is not ready to throw the finest steaks in the oven.
They're looking for the less-expensive ham and pork products this holiday season.
And that's good news for Valley pork and ham producers.
"Right now, the retail price of a ham roast has stayed low, consumers are buying a lot of it and so it feels like demand is strong," said Martin George, who sells a large volume of Christmas hams at George's Meats, in Danville.
George's Meats is a staple in the Valley, with a reputation for selling sumptuous smoked Yule and Easter hams.
