LEXINGTON — The Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors reacted favorably Monday to a proposal to locate a 40,000-square-foot beef processing plant there.
The county is one of two locations project investors are considering for a $12 to $15 million plant expected to employ at least 70 workers and generate more than 225 support jobs for feed stores and equipment providers, said Tom Sikes, general manager of Waynesboro-based Reo Logistics and a project backer.
Investors have not identified the competing site location.
"I'm a full-time farmer, so this is very exciting," said Supervisor Mack Smith. "It's the future. It's something that's never been presented to the agricultural community in the area before."
