A nationwide record in commercial red meat production was matched in New York, a new report from the National Agricultural Statistics Service confirmed.
Combined slaughter totals for cattle, calves, sheep and hogs reached 3.7 million pounds in November, up 20 percent from a year previous. The largest gains came from the 5,400 head of calves processed last month — a 116 percent increase.
Cattle — 3,200 head — were up 28 percent; and hog — 5,300 head — were up 15 percent. Only sheep — 4,800 — declined, by 9 percent.
