COLUMBUS — Local hog farmer and National Pork Board member Bill Luckey gave a presentation called "the power of pork" to members of the Nebraska Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics on developments and common practices in the pork industry.
In the 1970s, as Americans became more health conscious, pork saw its sales drop as it was replaced by leaner meats like chicken. In response, the pork industry has developed leaner, healthier hogs through selective breeding and a science-based diet. The presentation Luckey gave was provided by the pork board for educational sessions to spread the word about the industry.
“We need to go out and do a better job telling our story,” Luckey said during his presentation at Hy-Vee.
