Bedford – The Pennsylvania Beef Council (PBC) Board welcomed five new directors during their annual meeting on Wednesday, December 14, in Bedford. Darwin Nissley, Lancaster County native, will lead the board of directors as chairperson. He succeeds outgoing chairman, Steve Paxton, of Mercer County who led the Board from 2015-2016. On behalf of the Checkoff, we thank Paxton for his support and excellence in leadership during his time on the board.
Crawford county beef producer Bobbi Dunn is the organization’s new Vice Chairperson. Washington County beef producer and sale barn owner David Kearns, Jr. and Adams County beef producer Chris Jeffcoat complete the slate of officers, serving as Secretary and Treasurer, respectively.
Newly elected to the board are Scott Mosemann, dairy producer from Fulton County; Candice Dotterer White, dairy producer from Clinton County; Mike Gahagan, packer representative from Montgomery County; Amanda Butterfield, dairy producer from Somerset County; and Adam Kauf, Pennsylvania Cattlemen’s Association’s appointment and beef producer from Bedford County.
Darwin Nissley, PBC Chairman, is excited and looking forward to the opportunity to serve as Chairman. “The Pennsylvania Beef Council does such a great job with consumer promotion and producer education,” noted Nissley. “I feel honored to be involved in this capacity and to give back to the industry by supporting the Beef Checkoff Program through our state beef council’s efforts.
The annual meeting provided program updates by each staff member and was highlighted by a presentation from Dr. John Park, Director of Leadership Development at Baker Tilly. Park addressed the group of nearly 30 producers and industry leaders with a motivational talk on “Embracing and Adapting to Change.”
“It’s a pleasure to address such a hardworking group. With that being said, whether it’s the beef or dairy industry or one of the most successful business’s out there it’s important to be nimble. You have to think about how to adapt to change. Change is constant and how you deal with change will determine the fate of your business and/or farm in the future” remarked Dr. Park.
