A new beef company is looking to set up shop in northeast Kansas, but needs farmers to sign on first.
Ivan Garrett, who will be the manager of a plant tentatively named Trails End Packing Co., said they are seeking a location with farms nearby that are willing to supply cattle. Trucking live cattle is expensive, he said, and they want to use animals raised in the Flint Hills region.
“We want to be in the middle of where the cattle are produced so they don’t have to truck them as far,” he said. “There’s probably the best grass in the world in the Flint Hills, and the best cattle in the world come from the best grass.”
