Jericho, NY – Nathan’s Famous has announced it will once again donate 100,000 of its signature world famous beef hot dogs to the Food Bank For New York City. An official presentation will take place during the proceedings at the company’s annual Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, NY.
Nathan’s Famous President Wayne Norbitz will present the donation to a representative of the Food Bank For New York City, which is part of the Feeding America network. As one of the city’s leading hunger-relief organizations, the Food Bank provides 400,000 free meals daily for New Yorkers in need through its network of 1,000 community-based member programs.
“Nathan’s Famous is proud to support the Food Bank For New York City in its fight against hunger,” said Wayne Norbitz, president and COO of Nathan’s Famous, Inc. “For many years now, the Food Bank has been part of our July Fourth celebration and we look forward to continuing this tradition of helping those in need.”
“The Food Bank For New York City is very pleased to again partner with our good friends at Nathan's Famous. This wonderful donation of protein will help the Food Bank meet the growing need for food throughout New York City,” said Lucy Cabrera, Ph.D., president & CEO of the Food Bank For New York City. "Approximately three million New Yorkers are struggling to put food on the table and 1.5 million already rely on the Food Bank’s programs and services. As we continue to experience a jobless recovery and the unemployment rate continues to hover around 9 percent, providing nutritious food to those we serve throughout New York City becomes that much more essential. We are enormously grateful to Nathan's Famous for their support and their ongoing commitment to hunger-relief."
The donation ceremony will occur at the original Nathan’s Famous on Surf and Stillwell Avenues in Coney Island, NY, where the annual hot dog eating contest takes place. Each year tens of thousands gather to watch the biggest competitive eating event in the world, while millions watch the event live on ESPN.
