NAMI To Host Annual Hot Dog Lunch On Capitol Hill

Washington, DC – The North American Meat Institute (NAMI) will host its Annual Hot Dog Lunch in celebration of National Hot Dog Day and July as National Hot Dog Month this Thursday, July 14, at the Rayburn House Office Building Courtyard from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.  More than 1,000 lawmakers, congressional staff, meat industry representatives and members of the media will convene on Capitol Hill.  Seven vendors are expected to serve more than 3,500 hot dog and sausage products in the company of three Major League Baseball legends: Andre Dawson, Andy Van Slyke, and Jack Clark.

Baseball Greats in Attendance:

  • Andre Dawson, during his 21-year baseball career, played for four different teams as a center and right fielder, spending most of his career with the Montreal Expos (1976–1986) and Chicago Cubs (1987–1992). An eight-time National League All-Star, Dawson was named the league's Rookie of the Year in 1977, and won the Most Valuable Player Award in 1987. Dawson was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010.
  • Andy Van Slyke is a former outfielder and centerfielder, playing for the St. Louis Cardinals (1983–1986), Pittsburgh Pirates (1987–1994), Baltimore Orioles (1995) and Philadelphia Phillies (1995).  He appeared in three All-Star games and won five Gold Glove Awards and two Silver Slugger Awards. 
  • Jack Clark, during his 18-season career, played for the San Francisco Giants (1975–84), St. Louis Cardinals (1985–87), New York Yankees (1988) San Diego Padres (1989–90) and Boston Red Sox (1991–92).  He won the Silver Slugger Award in 1985 and 1987 and is a four-time All-Star.
