In an unusual move, Mexico has banned imports of Foster Farms chicken from three plants implicated in a Salmonella outbreak that's sickened nearly 340 people in the United States.
Mexican authorities told the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Tuesday to delist the California plants, blocking two facilities in Fresno and another in Livingston from exporting to Mexico. Other Foster Farms plants in California, Oregon and Washington were not delisted.
USDA officials said this is the first time Mexico has delisted a facility based on a public health alert by the agency's Food Safety and Inspection Service. The FSIS did not push for a recall, however, and Foster Farms has not pulled any products suspected in the outbreak.
The company did not respond to a request for comment about the delisting.
